You should drink a lot – during a diet you should also pay attention to your overall calories intake. Diet-Coke (Coca Cola Light or Coca Cola Zero) seems to be an ideal solution for this purpose. Unfortunately there are some nasty side-effects: phosphoric acid and sweeteners.

Sweeteners

There is rumour that aspartam causes cancer. Up to now no scientific evidence is existing. Another rumour is, that sweeteners fool our own body like “hey dude, look there is something sweet, this must be sugar, so let’s start our anti-sugar-reaction and produce insulin.” Okay, now because there is no sugar in our blood but insulin, our blood-sugar-level will drop and we will get hungry. That followed we will eat more than without the sweeteners. Researchers found out, this is not true, there is no body-fooling related to sweeteners.

Phosphoric Acid

Phosphoric Acid is bad for your teeths. The acid attacks the calcium-layer. If you brush your teeths you will brush your dental enamel away – that sucks. This can also happen if you drink a lot of juices.

Moreover phosphate constrains calcium-grabbing of the bones, because calcium and phosphoric acid build a combination which is useless for the human body. Especially for non-adults this can be a problem.

In my opinion Cola-light and/or Cola-Zero (Diet Coke) is a lot better than normal Coke. You can drink some Diet Coke a day but do not make it to your alternative to water.
